Just like mum

I believe that it is around now, the mid 20s. That a girl will look at her mum and go, oh dang, she's just like me.
It was my baby brothers 23rd birthday last week, and so we had dinner with my folks. I asked mum when it was that she saw Europe. Late 1979. When she was 25. Now just over 30 years later, at about the same age, I'm going too.
Here are some mum and me stats.
She meet Dad when she was a teenager, I meet Ri when I saw 16.
However she married Dad at 19, I'm marrying Ri at 25.
Dad was 20-21 when he proposed, Ri was 22.
Ri will be 24 when we get married Dad was 21.
They got married in October one day before my mum's dad's birthday. We are getting married in May one day after my dad's birthday. (We didn't know this before we set the date- well I knew about MY dads birthday, but not Pa's as he had been dead for many years).
Mum finished nursing school at age 29, 3 weeks after having her first child.
I finished university (with 2 degrees mind you) at 24, sans children.

I'm hoping to recreate some of the photos they took on their Europe trip. They went in November, so I'm going to practice looking very cold.

Jump aboard

It was my mums birthday yesterday. She's 55.
Maybe it's age or maybe the increasing senility, but she has finally jumped aboard the wedding... train.

And now that she's on board she's noticed how little we've done and how much there is left to go.

We had a phone conversation that went like this:

Mum: Do the wedding invites need so much ribbon?
Me: Yes, I'm very pro ribbon and what do you care?
Mum: Well then shouldn't you get onto it?
Me: Well I was meaning to on Sunday but I was sick.
Mum: How are the girls dresses going?
Me: We're meeting a dress maker this weekend
Mum:Maybe I should have a dress made
Me:I'd like that
Mum: Something simple like a black cocktail dress
Me: Mum?
Mum:mmm?
Me: No you can't wear black.
Mum: Why not?
Me: You can wear grey or black and white
Mum: I don't want to wear white
Me: Good, because I don't want you to either. Black and white or grey.
Mum: Mmmm
Me: If you wear black, you've got to wear the flowers I'm buying you
Mum: Grey sounds good.
Me: *Sighs* I'll end up giving stacey your flowers wont I?
Mum: Yep, I hear Stacey loves flowers.
Me: *Groans* - but is smiling
Mum: What about the honeymoon
Me: Booking it this weekend
Mum: Heard that before

hahaha so have I. Shall we take bets? Ri has a hard time exchange large amounts of money for goods and serves.

It's a good feeling having mum interested.

Right now

Hi,
I haven't blogged in ages!
Honestly, I got a bit sick of the internet, I still have no plans to log on to facebook until July.

I'm sitting at home alone, Rhys has gone to a concert with my brother. I'm so glad they have music in common.

In the last week or so...

In the last week I've recovered from being very sick. On the last day of the flu/whatever it was, I couldn't get down the hall without a bucket and Rhys needed to give me IM maxolon, which finally stopped the vomitting! (Lovely).

I'm a Redcross volunteer (this is not new), I don't think I've mentioned that yet. I work with adults with high level needs, we do sensory activities. It's pretty good fun, it's something to do between locums, actually it means a lot to me. I went to a meeting at Redcross at Milton. Good times. We did an activity on what was stressing us out at that point in time. Mine was covered in wedding/honeymoon related pictures. Dork!

I start my next locum in a week! It almost doesn't feel real! It's been a few weeks since my locum at TPCH.

I'm all over the place about the wedding. I can go from freaking out about have I choosen *the perfect dress* to laid back *can't someone else do it* in a day.
It still doesn't feel real!

Oh the money. We're SO lucky that my mum is awesome and letting us live at her new house, we would have NO money if it weren't for her.

We've started talking about our honeymoon, I started trying to do a rough idea, found some maps and websites. But got completely overwhelmed!
6 months, around the world. Where the hell do you start?!

This month is our fourth dating anniversary. FOURTH! Everytime I've written that down this year I've looked at it and thought no. But yes 2005 is when we started dating. It took the bum two months to ask me out! So many people told me he wasn't worth it. But I knew he was.

Rhys's dad is getting married again this month.
I was not surprized. I told Rhys, after dinner with his dad and the lovely lady he is marrying, at the end of last year that they would get married. I could just tell.
Plus she was still wearing rings on her ring finger.
His dad seemed distressed about getting married 'before us.'
We both just want everyone to be happy.

Found it!

The dress that is.
Within budget and I love it!
Poor mum, mum who hates all things wedding, was right there with me when I tried what could have only been dress number 99.
I immediately felt like a princess. I could see mum's face when I said this was my dress, it said:
*Could we please check the price tag first*
I had, it was in budget, and she was happy too.
I stood there in my dress as happy as anything, and mum decided this was the time to tell the sales lady ALL about my traumatic childhood. The wheelchairs, the anorexia, the special school, the many many many abusive teachers. They shared a mutual dislike of teachers. I could only laugh, seeing as my FMIL is a teacher (We all love that teacher).
Now that I've found the dress I don't think I can put it up on the blog!
I'm dying to show my BMs, my MOH and maybe my FMIL when she gets back from the north on the condition that she doesn't mention that she is a teacher.
